Terms of use

Last updated 12 October 2026

Draft, pending legal review. Nothing here is final yet.

Who we are

CarMatter is made by Matter Development (“we”, “us”). These terms are between you and us when you use the CarMatter app or this website. By using either, you agree to them.

Using CarMatter

You can use CarMatter without an account; your records then stay on your phone. Free covers one car, and Plus covers every car in the household. Sharing with your household, syncing between phones, Ask a mechanic and sharing a car’s history need an account. Keep your sign-in to yourself: what happens under your account is your responsibility.

CarMatter Plus

  • Plus is a subscription, monthly or yearly, bought in the app through the App Store or Google Play, or on this website.
  • In the app, the store charges you, in your currency, and renews Plus automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. On this website, Paddle.com does (see below).
  • A free trial, when offered, becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends.
  • For purchases in the app, cancelling and refunds go through the store; for purchases on this website, through Paddle or your account page. See Refunds.
  • Prices can change. The store, or Paddle for web purchases, tells you before a new price applies to you.

Buying on this website

Our order process on this website is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our web orders: it takes the payment, handles tax and invoicing, and provides customer service for the order and its refunds. Paddle’s own buyer terms apply to the purchase. Plus bought here belongs to the CarMatter account you were signed in with, renews automatically until you cancel, and a free trial becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends.

Reminders, estimates and advice

Service intervals, due dates, costs, resale ranges and warning-light explanations in CarMatter are guidance, worked out from what you enter and from general maintenance practice. They are not a mechanic’s inspection or financial advice. Suggested intervals. Follow your owner’s manual. If a warning light comes on or something feels wrong, stop when it’s safe and have the car checked.

Your records

What you enter stays yours. Our privacy notice says what leaves your phone, why, and how to delete it.

Fair use

Don’t misuse CarMatter: don’t try to break or overload it, copy or reverse-engineer it beyond what the law allows, use it to break the law, or upload what you have no right to share.

Liability

We work to keep CarMatter accurate and available, but it is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses, or for harm from relying on a reminder or an estimate instead of the car’s manual or a mechanic. Nothing here limits the rights consumer law gives you where you live.

The app stores

If you got CarMatter from the App Store or Google Play, the store’s terms also apply to your download and purchases. Apple and Google aren’t responsible for CarMatter or for supporting it; we are.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we’ll say so in the app or on this page before it applies.
